Betting abstinence. Two extremely powerful words, eh? My family like seeing those words together. And the When The Fun Stops Stop brigade certainly like seeing those words mated. But what if the fun never starts? Keep trying?

I sampled a fortnight of betting abstinence prior to this week. Paul Dunne, on whom I had £20 each-way at 100-1 with Coral for the Made In Denmark, was my final interest before I hung up my punting pen.

Dunne went into the final round in sixth place, birdied the second and third to give himself high hopes of a maiden title, before finishing tenth. It was at that point I decided to get away from golf and attempt to cleanse a frazzled frowning forehead.
