Backstory Blue Point had been put firmly in his place in the big sprints in 2017, despite having beaten Harry Angel at Ascot in May and ending that season with another Group 3 win there.

What made 2018 special? After a disastrous Dubai World Cup night and ignominious defeat at Sha Tin, Blue Point finally made his Group 1 breakthrough in the King’s Stand Stakes.

Best moment A commanding defeat of the brilliant Battaash and subsequent Abbaye winner Mabs Cross in the King’s Stand Stakes under regular rider William Buick was the stand-out 2018 performance of this Ascot specialist.
