Tom Dascombe will be unwrapping a very fast present at Wolverhampton next Thursday when super speedy sprinter Kachy begins his winter campaign.

After finishing an excellent third to Blue Point in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, connections decided to put Kachy away for the remainder of the turf season to wait for winter and the all-weather.

The soon-to-be seven-year-old has displayed blistering pace on plenty of occasions, including when flying clear by three and a quarter lengths in the All-Weather Sprint Championship on Good Friday.

That valuable race is the main aim again, and Kachy's preparations for finals day at Lingfield are in line to be the same as last winter, starting with a conditions race at Wolverhampton on December 26, which he won by six lengths in 2018.

Speaking on Wednesday, Dascombe said: "The intention is to run there [at Wolverhampton], then at Lingfield in February before the Sprint.

"He's training away well; I'm pleased with the way he's progressing."

Beaten only once on a synthetic surface in six starts, Kachy is an all-weather ace, and his exploits were recognised last week at the Racehorse Owners Association Awards, where he scooped the outstanding All-Weather Horse accolade.

Dascombe added: "I'm delighted he won the award last week."
