Fairyhouse expected to keep show on the road for final day of Easter festival

Tuesday's jumps meetings in Britain have both fallen victim to the weather, and the final fixture of the three-day Easter festival at Fairyhouse has to pass an inspection at 8am.

Peter Roe, manager at Fairyhouse, said on Monday: "We have fresh ground on the hurdle track for Tuesday and we will pick the best ground on the chase track. I am confident we will get through it. Most of the rain is due to have passed through by late afternoon today and then we are looking at a dry 24 hours. The ground has taken it remarkably well.

"We have had 15mm of rain since nine o'clock last night. It is heavy, but it is safe and they are getting through it. At this stage we don't foresee any issue based on the forecast we have. This day last week Met Eireann said we might be having a couple of inches of snow, so an inch of rain is a result in that sense."

Catterick clerk of the course Fiona Needham is hopeful the track's fixture on Wednesday will survive.

That is a hopeful rather than confident, but several factors – not least the course's excellent drainage due to a gravel base – are cause for confidence that a day that already features three all-weather meetings will not lose its only British turf fixture. Leopardstown's Flat meeting is currently not under threat.

"The ground's heavy and it is raining, but we were raceable today," said Needham on Monday afternoon. "It's a question of how much more rain we get before this moves through really, but we are forecast a couple of predominantly dry days – albeit there are some showers about.

"We are on gravel so we do drain well, so it's a case of fingers crossed. It seems to have eased off a little bit at the moment but we'll need to see how we come out of today. I would be hopeful, I'm not going to say I'm confident, but hopeful. It will be testing."

Lingfield – all-weather fixture so no problems anticipated. Going given as standard

Southwell – all-weather fixture so no problems anticipated. Going given as standard

Thursday

Chelmsford – all-weather fixture so no problems anticipated. Going report not yet available

Musselburgh – going currently given as heavy. Total of 17mm of rain last week with 10mm Monday and further rain all the way through to Thursday

Warwick – standing water in places after 15mm of rain overnight into Monday. "We do have showers forecast so we're going to need to be lucky and get the lower end of those showers," said clerk of the course Jane Hedley

Wolverhampton – all-weather fixture so no problems anticipated. Going given as standard
