Meydan might have been the most likely place to pick up clues for the Dubai World Cup card on Saturday, but early-bird racegoers at Lingfield were treated to a glimpse of Dubai Turf-bound Ribchester, who worked before racing.

Lingfield is hardly a stone's throw from Richard Fahey's North Yorkshire base, but the trainer was keen to test him left-handed before his big-race assignment.

Fahey explained: "He's never been that way before, and Lingfield seemed the ideal place to do it. He worked seven and a half furlongs with two other horses and we're happy with him.

"He heads out on March 18 and that will give us a chance to get the freshness out of him."

Ribchester is vying for favouritism with Zarak at around 3-1 for the 1m1f Group 1 and Fahey is delighted with his condition.

He added: "Physically he's done well. He's got a lot stronger, which we always felt he would, and he's more mature too. We're delighted with him."
