Fahey and Quinn among northern trainers to open their yards on Sunday

Richard Fahey, John Quinn and Mick and Tim Easterby are among the trainers opening their doors at the Malton open day on Sunday.

A total of 12 yards will be open to the public from 9am until 12pm, and visitors will also be able to look around Jack Berry House, the Injured Jockeys Fund northern rehabilitation centre.

Afternoon activities on the Highfield gallops include a jockeys’ relay showjumping competition, a dog show and terrier racing.

The day, sponsored by Arena Racing Company, is a key fundraising event for Racing Welfare and a proportion of the money generated also goes to local causes.

Sarah Fanning, regional welfare manager for the north at Racing Welfare, said: "The Malton festival of racing, incorporating the stables' open day, is a key event for the horseracing industry in the area.

"It helps to highlight the success of racing in the north of England and provides a special opportunity for racing fans and local people to see the hard work that takes place behind the scenes in the sport.”

In addition to Fahey, Quinn and the Easterbys, the trainers opening their doors include Julie Camacho, Mark Campion, Lucy Egerton, Roger Fell, Suzzanne France, Ollie Pears, Nigel Tinkler and John Wainwright.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £7.50 for the over-60s.
