Future Champions weekend surely lived up to its billing. Alhough no remarkable ratings were achieved, the performances mostly delivered on expectations and neatly previewed what could be to come next season.

Newmarket’s Dewhurst Stakes usually anoints a Champion Two-Year-Old and despite Native Trail not achieving his highest figure in the race, it is hard to envisage the crown going elsewhere given what is left of the season.

A Racing Post Rating of 121 is fairly typical of a good Dewhurst winner. His best remains the National Stakes but Saturday's race and the decisions made by the riders involved may have prevented us from seeing exactly what Native Trail has to offer.
