Estidhkaar could be set for return at Redcar

Dual Group 2-winning two-year-old Estidhkaar is on course to make his first start in more than a year in a strong Listed race at Redcar on Saturday, but will need conditions to ease if he is to take his chance.

The four-year-old made a highly promising reappearance last year in Newbury’s Greenham Stakes, going down by only a neck to subsequent sprint champion Muhaarar, but he was down the field when fancied for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas and has not been seen in public since beating only one rival in the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville last August.

Trainer Richard Hannon said: “The ground dried up when we were getting him ready for the Lockinge and then we couldn’t get him back right. There’s never been anything seriously wrong with him, but it’s taken a long time.
