Superstar returns: Enable's first target revealed by John Gosden

Enable is set to make her seasonal reappearance in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on July 5, trainer John Gosden has revealed.

The dual Arc winner, who has stepped up her preparation in Newmarket in recent weeks, was a possible for the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 17, but that may come too soon.

Rather than head to the breeding sheds after her record-breaking attempt to win a third Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe narrowly came up short last October, the six-year-old was kept in training specifically to have another shot at the French highlight in October and the mare is a best-priced 6-1 favourite with Ladbrokes Coral and Paddy Power – although she is as short as 7-2 for Europe's richest race.

Gosden said: "Enable is in good form and has enjoyed a couple of spins up the Al Bahathri in the past few weeks. But with all of the uncertainty about when racing was going to restart and even whether Royal Ascot was going to go ahead earlier this year we've decided to wait for Sandown."

Enable also reappeared in the Coral-Eclipse last year where she overcame old foe Magical before going on to land the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Yorkshire Oaks prior to only her second career defeat at the hands of Waldgeist in Paris.

Coral’s spokesman David Stevens said: “While it will be a very different Coral-Eclipse this year to the previous 44 we have sponsored, taking place on a Sunday with no spectators in attendance, the news that Enable will once again start her campaign at Sandown in front of the ITV cameras is fantastic, and a great boost to our flagship race sponsorship.

“She triumphed over old rival Magical at odds of 4-6 last year, and looks sure to be sent off a warm favourite once again, as we’ve installed her as our 11-10 favourite at this stage. While she won’t have to take on any of the Classic generation this year, she could still face a strong field, including Magical once again, and her Ballydoyle stablemate, Japan.”

Enable's regular jockey Frankie Dettori has yet to partner the daughter of Nathaniel at home this year where she has a new partner in the shape of Brazilian work-rider Ben De Paiva, who once rode Winx during a spell working in Australia.

Enable, who was 6-1 third favourite behind Japan for the Prince of Wales's Stakes, will be chasing an 11th Group 1 win at Sandown.
