Enable among six nominations for third Cartier Horse of the Year title

Three superstar fillies dominate the nominations for the 29th Cartier Horse Of The Year, with dual Arc heroine Enable, Champion Stakes winner Magical and Irish Oaks scorer Star Catcher among six contenders.

European horseracing's top awards are delivered through a combination of points earned by horses in Pattern races (30 per cent), combined at the end of season with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists/handicappers (35 per cent) and votes from readers of Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph as well as ITV Racing viewers (35 per cent).

Enable, who was crowned Cartier Horse Of The Year in 2017 and 2018, was denied a third Arc win by Waldgeist, who also features, and will be joined by stablemates Stradivarius and Star Catcher in Cartier's ultimate award.

The brilliant Blue Point, who landed a memorable double in the King's Stand and Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, represents Godolphin. The famous blue silks are doubly represented in the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt award with Prix Morny winner Earthlight and juvenile sensation Pinatubo.

Runaway St Leger hero Logician is joined by stablemate and last year's star juvenile Too Darn Hot, the winner of two Group 1s this season, in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt award. Juddmonte International winner Japan, fourth in the Arc behind Waldgeist, and top miler Circus Maximus complete the four-strong list.

The Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly category is once again dominated by John Gosden and the O'Brien family. Investec Oaks and Irish Oaks winners Anapurna and Star Catcher are joined by Breeders' Cup victress Iridessa and dual Guineas heroine Hermosa.

Advertise, who was recently retired to the National Stud, is up for the Cartier Sprinter Award. The aforementioned Blue Point, Battaash and So Perfect complete the line-up.

Group 1 winners Kameko and Siskin join Godolphin's Earthlight and Pinatubo in the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt award. Siskin's owner Khalid Abdullah also holds strong hopes of lifting the fillies' equivalent with the unbeaten Quadrilateral, ante-post favourite for next season's 1,000 Guineas. Fellow Group 1 heroine Albigna, Daahyeh and Raffle Prize are also in contention.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony before an invited audience of 300 at the Dorchester in London on the evening of Tuesday, November 12, 2019.
