Emmet Mullins plotting another big-handicap strike with The Shunter

An already momentous 2022 could get even better for Emmet Mullins on Wednesday as the Grand National-winning trainer targets another major pot with The Shunter in the Tote Galway Plate (6.40).

Mullins described the 2021 Cheltenham Festival winner as "the gift that keeps on giving" after he bounced back to form with a win on his first Flat start as a nine-year-old at Sligo last month. He is now the 13-2 Plate favourite with Paddy Power.

The Shunter was 0-18 and rated just 108 over hurdles prior to joining the trainer but has been transformed into a big-handicap specialist in recent seasons, winning the Greatwood and Morebattle Handicap Hurdles, as well as the Paddy Power Plate.
