Dwyer says farewell to father - but not before a fall at the last

Given it hosts the Grand National, Liverpool has seen its fair share of fallers, but there was a surprise one for Martin Dwyer at the funeral of the jockey's father last week.

Martin snr, 63, was buried in Anfield Cemetery but not before some unexpected drama.

Dwyer told the Liverpool Echo: “Myself and my brothers carried Dad’s coffin out of the church and breathed a sigh of relief when we handed him over to the professionals. But as they were heading to the grave the lead undertaker, who was walking backwards, tripped on a headstone and the coffin went flying.
