The case for the prosecution now rests. It concluded on a day that began with a man who had no name and equally no doubt that what he was telling the BHA's judicial panel was incontrovertibly true. Much of what followed was filled with considerably more confusion and uncertainty.

Into that category we must place Chris Watts, appointed in May 2017 to what was then a new BHA role, head of integrity assurance. For reasons that have never been publicly explained, Watts is no longer in the job, a fact that was raised by Robbie Dunne's barrister Roderick Moore.

It would not be unfair to say the nature of Moore's questioning implied he might believe Watts was not always a complete success when an employee of British racing's regulator.
