Dunlop to pay £35,000 to supplement shock Doncaster winner for Fillies' Mile
Shock May Hill winner will get her chance at the highest level after connections confirmed she will be supplemented for next week's bet365 Fillies' Mile.
Trained by Harry Dunlop, the juvenile has a remarkable profile having won over 5½f on firm ground at Bath before she outran her 40-1 odds to land Doncaster's May Hill Stakes, which was staged on good to soft.
The Fillies' Mile, which takes place at Newmarket next Friday, is now the plan, but the Megson family, who own her, need to pay £35,000 to add her to the field.
Dunlop said: "She seems fine, so the Fillies' Mile is the plan. We're really pleased with her and she didn't seem to have a hard race at Doncaster.
"The Gosdens have , who won the Rockfel, and that form looks really strong, so we've got to improve and I wouldn't mind some rain, but my filly has won on fast ground as well.
"It's very sporting of the owners, but she did win a nice amount in the May Hill. They're huge enthusiasts and supplementing is what they wanted to do, and I think it's the obvious thing to do too.
"She's a Group 2 winner, so why not have a go at a Group 1? She's run a lot, so hopefully that will put her in good stead – it's whether she's good enough. It's going to be a big step up, but I don't think it's a stupid idea."
Dunlop will quit training at the end of the year and Polly Pott will join Ben Pauling.
"I'm doing lots," he said. "I'm doing some bloodstock work and also involved in horticulture, looking after people's gardens, which is something I want to create a business out of. I'm really busy, but would also like to manage some horses for an owner."
