Doncaster next for exciting Too Darn Hot as Gosden seeks Champagne success

Last Saturday's exciting Solario Stakes winner Too Darn Hot could be in for a busy September as he has been earmarked for a crack at the Group 2 Howcroft Industrial Supplies Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday week.

The John Gosden-trained colt confirmed the promise of last month's seven-length debut triumph when trouncing Royal Ascot winner Arthur Kitt by four lengths at Sandown last weekend.

That stunning victory propelled the Andrew Lloyd Webber-owned juvenile, who is named after a song from the musical Kiss Me, Kate, into ante-post favourite for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas (general 7-1) and Investec Derby (6-1) next year.

For his part, Gosden has yet to win the Champagne Stakes, which is over the same 7f trip as the Solario. The last colt to do the double was Alhaarth in 1995.

Prior to that, the last colt to win the Champagne Stakes and win the 2,000 Guineas was Rodrigo De Triano in 1991.

Gosden said: "Too Darn Hot won well at Sandown and providing he comes out of that in good shape the plan is to go for the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster."

Too Darn Hot is also entered in the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket next month.
