Disqualified jockey riding work for Dickinson in US

Darren Egan, who was warned off for 12 years in February after being found guilty of corruption charges, has been handed an opportunity to stay in racing by legendary trainer Michael Dickinson.

The former apprentice has been working as an exercise rider at Dickinson's Tapeta Farm training establishment in Maryland since his licence to ride work at tracks in California was revoked as a result of his ban.

Dickinson, who approached Egan with the offer of a job, said the rider had acknowledged what he had done was wrong and was "contrite" and "repentant", adding: "Twelve years without riding at racetracks is a stiff penalty. I'm happy he's able to ride horses because he does love them."
