Roger Lewis, a former amateur rider and well-known face on the West Country and Wales racing scene in his role as winner's hospitality host for the last 20 years, has died at the age of 72.

Hailing from a Welsh family with horses, Lewis rode in his first point-to-point at the age of 14 on April Pennant trained by his father Wilfred.

He finished second but his partnership with the mare went on to rack up a hat-trick in points before contesting the Foxhunters at Cheltenham and the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow.
