The horsebox driver who was left with life-threatening injuries after being involved in a head-on road collision which killed the David O'Meara-trained Lincoln Pride is "making good progress", the trainer has confirmed.

Diane Jackson was driving the three-year-old back to O'Meara's yard in North Yorkshire after winning at Yarmouth on August 23 when the horsebox collided with a black Range Rover on the A47 Acle Straight and ended up in a ditch.

Jackson was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge following the accident and while she remains there following surgery, she is improving in her recovery.

Speaking at York on Sunday, O'Meara said: "She's coming on. She's in good enough spirits and making good progress.

"She's still in Addenbrooke's, but we're in a lot better shape with her than we were two weeks ago."

The collision, which led to the road being closed for about seven hours, also left the driver of the other vehicle – a man in his 20s – with serious injuries.

He was taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston, while his female passenger was hurt as well.

Lincoln Pride, who was owned by GPS Heart Of Racing (Bloodstock), was a three-time winner this year at Doncaster, Newcastle and Yarmouth.
