Death of well-known Yorkshire owner at age of 80
Long-standing Yorkshire based owner David Faulkner, who enjoyed almost 100 winners in his colours, has died following a long illness at the age of 80.
Faulkner’s best-known horses were Atlantic Viking, who won the Epsom Dash in 2003 and he had the 1-2 in the Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon in 2005 with Ice Planet and Pieter Brueghel, both trained by David Nicholls.
Faulkner’s son Lloyd said: “My father had a winner at every course in Yorkshire which gave him immense pleasure. However, he did have to wait a long time for the one that mattered at York itself but that came in 2004 with Pieter Brueghel."
The funeral will be held at an open service at St Oswald’s Church, Sowerby near Thirsk (Y07 1JG) on Wednesda December 21 at 1.30pm.
