Daryl Jacob will be out of action over the busy festive period after he sustained a fracture to his hip at Ascot on Saturday.

He fell at the first aboard the Nicky Henderson-trained Caribean Boy in the Howden Silver Cup and was kicked by a horse when hitting the ground.

Jacob was treated on the track for a prolonged period before being taken away by ambulance, but he was discharged late on Saturday night while further updates as to when he may return can be expected later this week.

"I feel okay, I just feel a bit sore this morning," Jacob told the Racing Post on Sunday. "I've got some fracture to the hip. I got home about 12.30am last night.

"The horse just overjumped the fence and knuckled on landing and the horse that came behind kicked me.

"I've no idea when I might be back. I spoke to Dr Jerry Hill [BHA chief medical adviser] last night and this morning and I'll be seeing a specialist during the start of the week and I'll know more after that. Unfortunately I'll miss riding over Christmas."

Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, to who Jacob is retained rider, have Fusil Raffles entered in the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase on Boxing Day.

Conditional jockey Jack Andrews also took a nasty fall on Saturday, coming down on Soul Emotion in the 2m3f handicap hurdle at Haydock.

Andrews, who missed out on a winner at Fakenham on Sunday with the Ben Case-trained Conceroe instead steered to victory by Jack Quinlan, is set to miss more rides over the Christmas period and will visit the doctor on Monday to see whether he suffered any concussion.

His agent Ian Popham said on Sunday: "Jack's okay, it's just one of those things so he'll need to have a few days, probably a week, off. It's nothing too serious, he's just a bit battered and bruised but he'll be fine. He's a little frustrated but these things happen.

"Jack will to speak to the doctor on Monday and see what it is."
