Curragh stalls handlers wear RaceTech caps to mark Yarborough funeral
Stalls handlers working at the Curragh on Monday donned the coloured caps worn by their RaceTech counterparts in Britain as a mark of respect for Stephen Yarborough, whose funeral took place in East Yorkshire.
Yarborough, 60, died following an accident when working at Haydock last month and Matt White, leader of the 14 handlers on duty at the Curragh, said: "We wore RaceTech caps out of respect for Stephen, his family and his colleagues. We asked his family and they fully supported our decision.
"Between ourselves and out colleagues in the UK we are a small but important team and you never expect what happened to Stephen to occur."
He added: "Sharleen O'Reilly, racing operations manager with Horse Racing Ireland, organised everything for us."
Ryan Moore, meanwhile, donated his £1,000 cash prize for winning the Racing UK-backed top jockey award at Goodwood last week to the fund set up to support Yarborough's family.
