Crystal Ocean still heads Enable in world rankings despite King George defeat
Enable's pulsating neck victory over Crystal Ocean in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes was not enough to propel her to the head of the Longines World's Best Racehorse rankings.
Crystal Ocean, who was giving Enable 3lb at Ascot, retains his position at the top of the standings for 2019 with a rating of 127. That leaves him 1lb clear of dual Arc winner Enable, who put up a 3lb better performance at Ascot than she had achieved when making a successful reappearance in the Eclipse at Sandown.
Racing Post Ratings paint a similar story, with Crystal Ocean earning a rating of 129 compared to Enable's 127+. Following the King George Racing Post handicapper Paul Curtis said: "Enable is clearly the best filly or mare in training, and with the sex allowance she sets a daunting target for the colts to aim at and a third Arc looks very much on the cards."
Waldgeist, who finished third behind the pair at Ascot, improved his rating from 122 to 124.
The latest rankings reveal Stradivarius put up a career-best performance when extending his winning sequence to eight in the Goodwood Cup last week. The superstar stayer improved his rating by 1lb to 121.
Ten Sovereigns, who won the July Cup in impressive fashion last month, is the highest-rated European sprinter still in training with a mark of 122. Blue Point has a rating of 124 but was retired after his Royal Ascot exploits.
City Of Light, who retired to stud after victory in the Pegasus World Cup, remains the leading dirt horse with a rating of 125 but the Bob Baffert-trained McKinzie is closing in on that title. He was a comfortable winner of the Whitney Stakes at Saratoga last weekend, raising his rating from 121 to 123.
