Champion Hurdle-winning trainer Gavin Cromwell has praised the introduction of three €15,000 handicap hurdles confined to horses owned by syndicates and racing clubs.

Arranged by Horse Racing Ireland's (HRI) ownership division, the pilot scheme will be sponsored by Tote Ireland and the races will take place at Cork on July 12, Bellewstown on August 29 and Gowran Park on October 5, and all horses declared must have run in the same ownership on their previous start.

"It's a good idea," said Cromwell. "I have a number of horses owned by syndicates and racing clubs and I'm sure they will welcome the idea. The ratings band (109) is about right and I'm sure I'll have more than one runner in the three races."
