Cricket legend Holding bowled over by Stoute's Derby possible Mirage

Stoute's friend and fellow Barbadian Michael Holding has recently arrived for his annual summer visit and is most taken with the son of Frankel, who is his favourite horse in the yard. Ryan Moore steered the three-year-old to the head of affairs on the Al Bahathri but whether the Dee Stakes fourth takes up his entry in the Investec Derby has yet to be determined.

Two days after missing one racecourse engagement at York, the Lloyd Webbers' filly fulfilled another when working a mile on the Rowley Mile racecourse a little after 7.30am. Despite not really enjoying the soft ground, the four-year-old finished nicely out of the Dip and has options at Sandown and Goodwood next week.

Scott had South African jockey Gavin Lerena among his ranks but it was fellow rider Silvestre de Sousa who was stepping on the gas on this youngster on the Flat gallop on Racecourse Side, which was riding well despite 46.5mm of rain. It is hoped the son of Exceed And Excel fares better than his US presidential namesake, who was assassinated in 1881.

The globetrotting stayer is easy to pick out as he is owned by Bill Gredley, who insists on riders of his string wearing high-visibility jackets for identification purposes. The five-year-old bypassed Friday's Yorkshire Cup on account of the ground and appeared in good shape working around the bend under Bell's assistant Ben James.

Ajman PrincessRoger Varian
Varian stuck close to home and used the Al Bahathri Polytrack, where this thriving filly looked the business in her exercise over a mile. The daughter of Teofilo was the five-length winner of a Listed contest at Goodwood last time and will stay at a similar level for the Pinnacle Stakes at Haydock on June 10.

Looked none the worse for his strange performance in the Kentucky Derby when working a mile with Big Challenge on Racecourse Side on Friday morning. The classy son of Helmet will bid to put his US episode behind him in the either the Irish 2,000 Guineas on Saturday week or, more likely, next month's French Derby.
