'We need international competition as soon as possible' - EPC plans way forward

The importance of international competition in the major Group 1 and Classic races was underpinned at Tuesday's European Pattern Committee (EPC) meeting, according to Brian Kavanagh, chairman of the organisation.

The EPC have been holding regular discussions during the coronavirus pandemic with Germany and France, the first countries scheduled to return racing behind closed doors. Germany hopes to resume on May 1, while France is also working towards a resumption next month.

Once it is safe for all countries to return, Kavanagh revealed the focus of attention will need to be directed at maintaining the quality of the major Flat races, which includes ensuring international participation.
