Racing officials in France are increasingly optimistic the sport can resume behind closed doors on May 11 following a "positive" meeting with senior government officials on Tuesday.

Among those in attendance alongside the ministers for finance and agriculture was France Galop president Edouard de Rothschild, who expressed his optimism for a mid-May resumption on social media.

"It was definitely a positive meeting," said Olivier Delloye, France Galop's chief executive officer. "We are targeting May 11, the date set by president Emmanuel Macron as a possible turning point. We'll still need approval from the government to resume in mid-May.
