Palmer concerned horses could be moved overseas if lockdown lasts too long

Hugo Palmer fears a prolonged lockdown in Britain could lead to an exodus of horses to other racing jurisdictions such as France and Germany, who are preparing to resume racing early next month.

However, the trainer remains optimistic the sport will be ready to return this summer and stressed the importance of maintaining the Pattern structure, as well as providing opportunities for juveniles.

"I'm confident the BHA will be able to get us racing soon after the government loosens its lockdown restrictions," Palmer said. "I can't see any reason why we wouldn't be ready to go within five or six days of that. The imponderable is when that's going to be.
