Newbury making financial provisions as insurer stipulates coronavirus clause

Officials at Newbury are making financial provisions in case racing's disruption continues, after it emerged insurers stipulated an exclusion for any loss of meetings at the track due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Berkshire venue, where racing was scheduled to take place last Friday and Saturday, insures a number of its fixtures for abandonment but the inception of a new policy in January included a clause excluding any loss relating to coronavirus.

The Racing Post understands many other lost meetings at different racecourses were not insured against the coronavirus outbreak.
