'It's a massive shame' - Hexham misses 130th anniversary raceday

Hexham missed the chance to celebrate 130 years of racing on Monday with its anniversary card falling victim to jump racing's suspension, but course officials are optimistic they will survive the pandemic unscathed.

The current crisis means that the scenic Northumberland venue has no racing scheduled until September 2 with seven meetings cancelled.

Robert Whitelock, racecourse manager, said: "It's disappointing that we'll lose seven meetings between April and the end of June. Monday would've been our 130th anniversary and then we were just coming into our busy season.
