British yards advertise swift response to new coronavirus guidelines

All industries are being encouraged to help slow the spread of coronavirus and racing is no different, with several trainers on Wednesday advertising the means they are employing to battle the pandemic.

The BHA has released guidelines informing yards of how best to keep to the limitations of the lockdown introduced by prime minister Boris Johnson on Monday, and trainers have put in place the necessary changes.

A video posted via the Rebel Racing ownership group's Twitter feed shows how seriously Richard Spencer is taking the new rules at his Newmarket base.

Horses are walked down the gallops at two metres apart to adhere to recommended social distancing, while tacks are laid out at the same intervals in the yard to maintain distance between stable staff.

Trainer Gay Kelleway has also adapted, introducing signs reminding staff to regularly wash their hands and blocking the visits of anyone not associated with the yard without prior permission.

Richard Fahey posted on his Twitter feed a video showing the makeshift hand sanitiser stations installed at his yard, and back in Newmarket John Berry headed out to the gallops this morning while keeping social distancing firmly in mind.
