Confirmed runners and riders for Sunday's Irish St Leger at the Curragh

Search For A Song's bid for a third consecutive win in the Comer Group International Irish St Leger has been given the green light after she featured among 14 declared runners for Sunday's Classic.

In what will be her first start since finishing down the field in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in May, the Dermot Weld-trained mare is set to take on Melbourne Cup hero Twilight Payment and last month's Ebor winner Sonnyboyliston.

Aidan O'Brien is responsible for four runners – the highest rated of which is Amhran Na Bhfiann – while son Joseph can also call on rapid improver Baron Samedi and staying stalwart Master Of Reality alongside Twilight Payment.

Unbeaten juvenile Point Lonsdale stood his ground among seven declared for the Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes on the Curragh card.

The impressive Futurity Stakes winner is to clash with Phoenix Stakes star Ebro River, exciting Weld youngster Duke De Sessa and Godolphin's Superlative Stakes scorer Native Trail.

Agartha will attempt to make the breakthrough at the highest level in the Moyglare Stud Stakes, having won readily in Group 2 and 3 company on her last two starts.

She looks set to face her toughest task in Sunday's eight-runner affair, which features impressive Leopardstown maiden winner Homeless Songs, the supplemented Cairde Go Deo and beautifully bred Discoveries.

All the main contenders have held firm in what promises to be a superb Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes as top British-trained raiders Winter Power and Glass Slippers do battle with Dragon Symbol and Rohaan.

Of the 13 declared runners for the €300,000 Group 1, five are challenging from across the Irish Sea.

Dual Classic heroine Love brings some real quality to the Moyglare Jewels Blandford Stakes and she will clash with Pretty Polly Stakes winner Thundering Nights, consistent stakes performer Cayenne Pepper and rising Paddy Twomey-trained star La Petite Coco in a nine-runner Group 2.

Sunday's two €125,000 premier handicaps will prove a real test for punters given the 28- and 26-runner fields, while the €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes, which attracted 20 and 26 runners in the last two years, has a line-up of just 14 this time around.

There were 13 British challengers in the 2019 edition and eight last year, but only three visiting runners were declared for Sunday's valuable 6f event.

Curragh ground 'in a good place'

Curragh clerk of the course Brendan Sheridan is expecting between 3mm and 5mm of rain at the Kildare venue on Friday, describing the courses as being "in a good place".

Conditions on the straight track are described as good, while the round course is good, good to firm in places.

In an update on the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board's Twitter feed, Sheridan said: "Speaking to the forecasters on Friday morning, they say we'll probably have light showers today and tomorrow, with the possibility of 3mm to 5mm of rain.

"That's a possibility and we'll see where we go with it, but we're in a good place. The stalls will be in the centre for all sprints and we're racing on the stand side."

Leopardstown clerk of the course Lorcan Wyer on Friday morning called the ground for day one of Longines Irish Champions Weekend on Saturday as good.

"We did a little bit of selective watering on Thursday when the rainfall amount didn't actually register but it was one of those dampish, misty days," he said.

"In effect, the track has regained the moisture that it may have lost during the hot spell on Monday and Tuesday."

Wyer added: "The forecast is generally dry with the chance of an occasional shower, mainly on Friday, but it's generally dry."
