A conditional jockey imprisoned for lying about a drunken car crash and paying a friend £2,500 to take the blame has issued a public apology and pleaded for a second chance in the sport.

Joe Colliver, jailed for 10 months in August but now back working at the yard of his boss Micky Hammond under a curfew release, hopes to be allowed to ride again after what he described as a "dreadful mistake".

The 25-year-old, who rode 26 winners last season, had lied about being behind the wheel of a truck when it crashed into a wall on Boxing Day, only for police to find his blood all over the footwell and driver's side door.
