Cliffs Of Moher returns to form with cosy win in Group 2 contest

On a day when Enable was ruled out of midsummer assignments, last season's Derby runner-up Cliffs Of Moher staked his Investec Coronation Cup claims with a first win in almost a year in the Group 2 Coolmore Camelot Irish EBF Mooresbridge Stakes at Naas.

It was a cool ride from Ryan Moore, with the son of Galileo landing a last-to-first success under a hands-and-heels ride, defeating Success Days by a length and three-quarters.

Cliffs Of Moher's triumph enhanced Aidan O’Brien’s recent record in the race, with the Ballydoyle maestro landing eight of the last nine runnings of the €130,000 contest.

O'Brien, who was completing a treble on the day, said: "He relaxed lovely and came home well. The Coronation Cup or the Tattersalls Gold Cup are options.

"He's a good horse and was just beaten in the Epsom Derby last year."

The four-year-old returned to action at the same track last month, trailing in last of five in the Alleged Stakes, but stepped up markedly on that effort on his second start of the season.

Success Days and Yucatan forced the pace for most of the 1m2f race, although when Moore – who was also notching a third win of the day – pulled the 13-8 favourite into the clear with two furlongs to run, the former Dee Stakes scorer picked up nicely to gain a first Group-race win.

The pacesetters kept on willingly to battle it out for the places, with Success Days getting the better of Yucatan by a head, but it was a cosy victory for Cliffs Of Moher, who was cut into 7-1 (from 10) for the Coronation Cup at Epsom on June 1 by Sky Bet and Betfair.

Cliffs Of Moher is also entered in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 20, for which he was shortened to 10-1 (from 14) with Paddy Power.
