Classic change as JCR suspends traditional yearling entry stage for 2022 Derby

Uncertainty about the financial future has caused Jockey Club Racecourses to suspend the traditional yearling entry stage for the 2022 Derby.

Rather than having the race close at its usual date in early December this year, it will instead take entries for the Epsom Classic closer to the time of the race, probably early in 2022 itself.

The move has been made because JCR cannot currently guarantee it will be able to run the race at its full value in 18 months’ time.
