Chepstow's meeting on Tuesday has been cancelled due to unsafe ground following a deluge at the course.

Track officials called an inspection for Monday morning and were forced to call off the eight-race Flat fixture with 53mm of rain falling since Friday.

There was standing water on the track on Sunday and a further 4mm of rain fell overnight with more forecast for Monday and Tuesday.

Since the track last raced on April 30, a total of 108mm of rain has been recorded.

Libby O'Flaherty, clerk of the course at Chepstow, said: "We've had so much rain in a really short period of time. By 8am on Saturday morning we had 25mm and we were forecast that from Friday night into Saturday night. Effectively, we've had double what we were forecast and there's standing water in places.

"With more rain forecast with showers today, tomorrow morning and then a band of rain in the afternoon, there's not sufficient time for it to improve."
