Cheltenham watered selectively on Friday night to preserve good ground for the second day of the November meeting.

The ground on Friday was described as good and around 5mm to 7mm was to be put on areas of the track, with no rain expected overnight and a sunny, mild day forecast on Saturday.

Areas watered included the majority of the back straight on the Old course, while the ground covered at the start of the Paddy Power Gold Cup also received attention.

Clerk of the course Jon Pullin said on Friday evening: "The ground was good today and we're going to do some selective watering to maintain that tomorrow.

"We're putting on between 5mm and 7mm in the two-and-a-half-mile chute round to the crossing then halfway down the back straight up to the top of the back straight. I'd be hopeful we'd be holding good ground.

"The forecast is dry for the remainder of the weekend, temperatures could get up to 17C to 18C."

The weather is set to be similarly sunny on Sunday with a possible high of 16C.
