Chelmsford upbeat about racing on Thursday after floodlight failure

Chelmsford is expecting to get clearance to race on Thursday after finding and correcting the fault which caused Tuesday evening's drama when the floodlights failed.

The runners in the third race, a 7f handicap, came home silhouetted only by the grandstand restaurant and bar lights. With the integrity tower plunged into darkness, no official result could be declared by the judge and the race was voided.

Fraser Garrity, the racecourse manager, said on Wednesday: "We have replaced the problem part which was preventing the back-up generators doing their job.
