Champion apprentice Cieren Fallon called in for ride on November Handicap plunge

Champion apprentice Cieren Fallon could be set for another big weekend after being booked to ride November Handicap gamble Collide.

The 3lb claimer, who rode four winners from five rides last Saturday, will team up with a horse who was a best-priced 16-1 after confirmations were made on Monday but was available at no bigger than 15-2 on Tuesday.

Fallon's father Kieren won the Doncaster feature 15 years ago on Carte Diamond and Hugo Palmer is delighted to have snapped up the youngster's services.

"Cieren has ridden a winner for us, he's had a wonderful year and seems to be a young man going places," the trainer said.

"Collide has won off 96 and we're on 98 less his 3lb claim on Saturday, so we hope he can run a big race."

The Khalid Abdullah-owned four-year-old has not raced since finishing down the field at Newmarket in July, but Palmer said: "Oisin Murphy questioned his breathing that day and he's had a small procedure on his throat. Hopefully that will help him.

"We've had to make sure we had him absolutely pinging, but I'm very happy with him going in to the race.

"I'd hoped he was going to be one of our leading lights this year and he's only managed to win one race, but our horses weren't right in the spring. He was the highlight of our early season, running well at York and Royal Ascot. For him to run so well then, you'd hope he can run better now our horses are right."

Despite being restricted to just one outing this season Deja, who is unbeaten in three runs for Peter Chapple-Hyam, remains clear favourite at a best-priced 5-1 for the 1m4f contest.

"He's had niggling little things, nothing too serious," said the trainer, who had been eyeing the John Smith's Cup and the Ebor after the four-year-old's successful reappearance at Kempton in July.

"He's in good form and has been working well, so he's got every chance. He's improving all the time and is a big horse. He's bred to stay and just wanted time.

"I'd think he'll be all right in the ground, but a lot of the other horses in there look to be stayers and it might turn it into a bit of a slog –I just hope he can cope with it. I've tried to win this several times before and failed, so it might be another one to knock off."
