A combination of beaten favourites and trainers saving their prize possessions for the festive fixtures meant just four horses picked up 20 points or more in the Tote Ten to Follow competition this week.

Only West Approach’s third at Cheltenham had any impact on the top of the leaderboard, with his 1.6 points moving a couple of teams up to a share of seventh, but the leaders remain the same.

With no Grade 1s all week, Warthog (26 points), Call Me Lord (24) and Cogry (22.2) returned the most points, although none of them is in the top ten scorers overall. Three of the five Grade 2s last week were won by horses not listed.

Andy Dufresne and Windsor Avenue were two of the odds-on shots beaten at the weekend, with the latter losing out to Sam Spinner (21.2), who could be on target for bonus points at the festival, along with Pym (14.1) and Mister Fisher (14.3).

One notable runner was Spiritofthegames, who picked up 11.9 points for coming second at 40-1 behind Warthog. Had he held on at Cheltenham, he would have amassed 78.2 points so far, enough to put him top of the charts.

Looking ahead to the next bonus race, the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day, backers of Altior look set to be disappointed after he was all but ruled out by Nicky Henderson. Lostintranslation and Cyrname head the market for the Kempton Christmas cracker.
