There will be a French flavour to the Virgin Bet-sponsored Grand Sefton over the National fences on Saturday as the Carberrys bid for more Aintree glory with the well-backed It’s Jennifer.

Trainer Louisa Carberry, based in Senonnes, north-west France, is set to have only her second runner in Britain and first at Aintree with the seven-year-old, who on Thursday was supported into a top-priced 10-1 for the £80,000 contest, having been 20-1 at the start of the week.

Carberry is married to Champion Hurdle-winning jockey Philip, whose brother Paul won the Grand National on Bobbyjo in 1999, sister Nina landed the Foxhunters’ aboard On The Fringe in 2015 and father Tommy trained and rode a winner of the National.

The Timothy Johnson-owned It's Jennifer ran a fine race when second in the Grade 3 Prix Montgomery Chase at Auteuil in October and Carberry said: “I’m an outsider married into it but I’m very lucky to have a lot of experienced people around me who know Aintree so well!

“We’ve all been looking forward to finding a suitable candidate for Aintree and her owners have been so brilliant and keen to give her a chance. We feel it’s a good time to come over and test the water – you only live once, so why not give it a shot?

“It’s Jennifer ran really well when just touched off at Auteuil six weeks ago and she has been given the same handicap mark that she's competitive off in France, which we're happy with."

Felix de Giles: booked to ride It's Jennifer in the Grand Sefton

Felix de Giles will ride It’s Jennifer, a hurdles winner at Compiegne on her penultimate start who finished ninth in a Grade 2 mares' event at Newbury two years ago.

Carberry said: “It’s a big plus to have Felix on board. He’s a top-class jockey, knows her well and has experience of the track.

“It’s always an unknown going to Aintree with a horse for the first time, but she’s faced up to plenty of different fences and never had any problems.

"She’s pretty sensible and Felix is a very good horseman, so hopefully the two of them will be able to navigate around safely.”
