Candy puts Limato bang in the mix for Ascot sizzler
Limato has rocketed to favouritism for Saturday’s red-hot Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes after trainer Henry Candy pledged on Monday to run his Prix de la Foret winner if the ground is good at Ascot.
Mecca's Angel is also set to join the party for what promises to be one of the highlights of the season after Michael Dods reported his Nunthorpe hero on course for the Ascot Group 1 – which the trainer described as "a hell of a race" – just 13 days on from her Prix de l’Abbaye third.
Following Limato's victory at Chantilly, also 13 days before Saturday's sprint, Candy had indicated the four-year-old was most likely to head straight to next month's Breeders' Cup, but following Monday's change of heart the dual Group 1 winner's odds for Ascot tumbled from a best-priced 8-1 to no bigger than 11-4 and as low as 2-1 with several firms.
