Bunbury Cup favourite Fastnet Tempest to sidestep Newmarket
Fastnet Tempest, as short as 6-1 favourite for next Saturday's Bunbury Cup at Newmarket, will bypass that race in favour of a shot at the Gigaset International Stakes at Ascot later in July.
The William Haggas-trained four-year-old already has a valuable Ascot handicap win to his name this season having landed the Victoria Cup in May.
He followed up that performance with victory at Chester before finishing ninth in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot last month.
Fastnet Tempest had been a firm favourite in all books for next week's £120,000 Bunbury Cup on the final day of the July meeting but Haggas confirmed a change of plan on Friday night, with connections instead opting to target the £150,000 Ascot prize on Saturday, July 29.
