Bullish Ward out to make it Lady's day again in Nunthorpe
Bring on Battaash and all the others in the Coolmore Nunthorpe at York next month.
That was the message from across the Atlantic from Wesley Ward, trainer of the favourite and impressive King's Stand winner Lady Aurelia, who is set to be reunited with Frankie Dettori after the rider missed out at Royal Ascot.
Battaash broke the course record when careering off with the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown on Saturday, with the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and the Nunthorpe looming targets.
But, speaking from his Keeneland base Ward, said: "I wouldn't trade places with anyone. I haven't seen this horse Battaash but I wouldn't swap my filly for him or anyone else.
"She came home from Ascot and nestled back into her same stall at Keeneland and is bucking and kicking looking like a million dollars.
"She'll be back in Britain on August 10 a couple of weeks out for the race and on what I'm seeing she's going to bring her A+ game and I'm going with Frankie if he's up for it.
Still to be beaten over a flying five, Lady Aurelia has added to her game this year, according to Ward.
"Last year she was all about speed and Frankie had to throttle her down but she's maturing as she gets older and we've got her to shut off in the first part of the race and then away she goes.
"You want the easiest race possible, but when talking about the Group 1 Nunthorpe you are expecting to meet the best."
Ward left a couple of his two-year-olds in England and is plotting a raid on the South Downs with his Queen Mary runner-up Happy Like A Fool.
He said: "She's going to run in the Molecomb and I'm excited to have my first runner at Goodwood."
Ward warned not to write off Nootka Sound, another juvenile who has stayed in England after her disappointing run in the Windsor Castle at the royal meeting.
"She had some issues with the gates and tried to flip over. She did a very nice breeze yesterday."
Bound For Nowhere, a staying-on fourth in the Commonwealth Cup, is in the 7f Lennox Stakes at Goodwood, but Ward added: "At the moment I'm leaning towards the Maurice de Gheest at Deauville but will have a look at both races and see what the competition looks like."
