British success comes to shuddering halt in Spain

British trainers Charlie Mann, Paul Webber and Peter Hedger were left wishing the rain in Spain had stayed mainly in the plain as their runners trailed in a long way behind the rest of the field in a weather-lashed Gran Premio San Sebastian on Saturday.

Tindaro, winner of the 1m6f race two years ago, Sureness and Hurricane Volta struggled on the soft ground which had been made testing by a downpour the previous day.

Sureness led home the trio but beaten a distance by the eighth finisher in the 11-strong field.
