British Champions Sprint on the radar for Ayr Gold Cup hero Son Of Rest

Son Of Rest could return to Group 1-level at Ascot next month following his performance at Ayr on Saturday, when he dead-heated with Baron Bolt in the Ayr Gold Cup.

The Fozzy Stack-trained four-year-old became the first Irish-trained winner of Europe’s most valuable sprint handicap six days after finishing second in the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh.

Speaking on Sunday, Stack said of the son of Pivotal: “Son Of Rest got home at 7am today. We’ll see how he is over the next week or so but we’re already toying with the idea of running him in the Qipco British Champions Sprint at Ascot on October 20.

“He’ll have to be supplemented [for £40,000] and a lot will depend on the ground situation closer to the time as he's shown he appreciates plenty of ease. We’ll talk things over but that’s the way we’re thinking.”
