Silvestre de Sousa is a red-hot 4-9 favourite to retain his Stobart Flat Jockeys Championship – and it is easy to see why.

The Brazilian’s incredible work ethic saw him take 218 more rides than 2017 runner-up Jim Crowley last season, and he has already made his intentions clear for the new season – which runs from Saturday until October 20 – by riding 26 winners this year.

In addition to his attitude, De Sousa obviously possesses great talent, and is aided by the fact he can comfortably ride at less than 8st 4lb.
