July 2012
Arena Racing Company shocks the sport by announcing the closure of jumps course Hereford as well as Folkestone, which staged Flat and jumps racing, as they were no longer viable. Arc said Hereford was badly in need of further investment which it was unable to commit to without any progress in negotiations with the local council over a new lease.
December 2012
After 241 years of staging horseracing Hereford hosts its final meeting before a crowd of 2,600, 1,100 of whom were paying customers, and becoming the first track - Great Leighs aside - to close since Stockton in 1981.
April 2015
In a surprise move Arc managing director Tony Kelly, the executive who signed Hereford's death notice and who had a sometimes uneasy relationship with racing's constituents, announced he will leave his role after accepting a post with the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
