Six Cheltenham contenders the handicapper may have let in lightly
Dunboyne
Gordon Elliott, Pertemps (140 RPR, 134 OR)
By Matt Gardner, handicapper
The Pertemps is one of the trickier puzzles to solve, with plenty of horses campaigned to qualify and then give their best on the big day. Dunboyne looks to fit the bill perfectly, however, and a mark of 134 is potentially lenient. He hasn’t been seen to best effect on any of his starts this season but particularly so on the last two, catching the eye after meeting plenty of trouble in running at Leopardstown over Christmas before making a mistake two out when still going well at the same track in February. He is still unexposed, almost certainly with a bigger performance still in the locker, and is sure to be primed by his expert trainer, who has won three of the last four renewals of this race.
