No stopping Aidan as Alice Springs realises her full potential

Alastair Down witnesses a huge gamble landed in yesterday's feature race

THERE is an ongoing frivolous debate in the press room as to whether the Falmouth Stakes or the Lockinge is the least interesting Group 1 of the season, and usually it is yesterday’s race that edges it.

But in fairness this year's Falmouth may have been won by a decent filly in the shape of Alice Springs, who was third in the 1,000 Guineas and looked hard done by when again third in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot where she had more stops than a junior doctor.

And by God she was backed as if money had lost its value – which of course a lot of it has post Brexit.
