The apparent boycott of the fillies' novice stakes at Newbury on Saturday would seem to be making a very specific point about the racecourse, rather than part of a bigger campaign about prize-money.

However, it is an illustration of wider frustration among owners, breeders, jockeys, trainers and stable staff about the current state of British racing.

Frustration about prize-money levels at Newbury is not a new phenomenon, as pointed out by colleague James Stevens in his special report in the Racing Post on Tuesday.
